Hexagram 55: Abundance Changing to Hexagram 61: Inner Truth

I Ching casting meaning · FengZhong Fu

Abundance finds its center — Inner Truth. The peak was always an expression of something deeper than the height itself: a genuine value, a real contribution, a truth about what matters that the climb was serving. That truth is the unshakeable center. The abundance was never the ultimate point; the truth that the abundance expressed was. Live from that truth now, whether the peak remains at full height or gradually weathers with time. The light was always just the truth shining through a particular form. The truth remains when the peak eventually erodes, because truth isn't dependent on altitude. Build the remaining life on the center.

A casting that moves from Abundance into Inner Truth means the situation you asked about is not static — it begins as one pattern and resolves into another. The first hexagram describes where you stand; the second describes where events are carrying you.

Highlighted in red: lines 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are moving — counted from the bottom. A moving line is where the change is actually happening: it flips from yang to yin or back, and that flip is what turns Abundance into Inner Truth.

The situation: Hexagram 55, Abundance

Full noon. Peak abundance — use it before the shadow.

Thunder and lightning arriving together — peak power, peak brightness, everything at maximum all at once. This is the summit hexagram, and its counsel is wonderfully unsentimental: this is the top, so act like it. Noon doesn't negotiate; the sun at its height has exactly one direction left. Don't waste the peak on worry about the decline — use the full light while it lasts. Make the big decision, launch the flagship, gather everyone, harvest everything ripe. And don't cling when the shadow starts lengthening; peaks aren't residences. Abundance fully used becomes legacy. Abundance anxiously guarded just becomes a dimmer version of itself.

Structurally, Abundance is Fire below Thunder — the inner state meeting the outer condition. That pairing is the lens for everything above.

Where it's heading: Hexagram 61, Inner Truth

Sincerity at the center moves even the stubborn.

The changed hexagram is the trajectory, not a verdict. As the moving lines settle, the energy of Abundance gives way to Inner Truth (Zhong Fu) — Lake below Wind. The advice that belongs to this outcome: Know what you truly believe, then act on it uniformly — especially unseen.
